Welcome to Moose Lake
I'm Keith Lorenz (aka "Dutch") and this is my website. I am a Retired Paramedic/Firefighter and Safety Engineer who grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania and now reside in Western Wisconsin, not far from the Minneapolis/St Paul area.
The intention of this website is to simply display my craft hobby of scale modeling fo.
A Brief History of Moose Lake
The Beginning
Moose Lake is a fictional town in the Land of Make Believe made up of several dioramas to showcase my collection of models that I have been building.
Everything in moose lake is a scale model, mostly done in 1/24 scale where "1- actual inch equals 24 scale inches". Some other scales here are 1/25 scale and 1/22.5 ("G") scale. There are a few items that are 1/32 scale that I just thought were really cool and not available in 1/24
What you will see has been built and detailed by me from either commercially available plastic and/or wooden kits, scratch building, kit-bashing, cast resin and 3D printing. There are also a few diecast models in the collection.
How I got started
Like many others back in the mid to late 1900's, I built many models as a kid between the ages of about 7, until I was a teenager. I built mostly aircraft and a few cars and I must admit, I very much enjoyed it and one might say I got pretty good at detailing aircraft as I won a few contest awards.
Every now and then over the years, I would buy a model and build it but things like children, marriage, education and careers always came first.
The Obsession began...
Fast forwarding 35-40 years, I got back into the hobby in the winter of 2017-18 to help me overcome an episode of Major Depression. I found the hobby very therapeutic so it contiuned slowly at firt. Due to my PTSD and Chronic/Major Depression I retired from my professional career in the spring of 2019 and began to spend more time building models
Soon the models needed a place to be displayed so a seed was planted on a 18"x24" sheet of plywood with a few cardboard walls for background. From that, the shop diorama sprouted.
Today, Mosse Lake Motorsports has grown quite large and has completely taken over my kitchen and the fictional "Town of Moose Lake" has branched out into the living room
